As Christians we have the tendency to believe that our walk is unbreakable, or free of challenge. That view however is flawed. God never promised us that we would be free of trials, or tribulations (storms). He did however promise us that He would be with us through the challenges we face in life. Sometimes we think that showing up for every church activity will get us a special reward, but for some it builds up ego. This walk is more about Him than it is about us.
There is nothing wrong with engaging in church activities, in fact it’s encouraged. You’ve just got to remember that it’s not your works that saved you, it was grace which was freely given. No one person can say that they are perfect, and I’m no exception to that rule. 1 John 1:8 tells us that if anyone claims to be without sin they in fact deceive themselves and the truth is not in them. To say that I’m perfect would make me a liar.
Boasting isn’t necessarily bad, it all depends on who you boast about. Are you boasting about you and “your achievements” or are you boasting in the Lord and about what He has done in your life.
This is the truth, I can boast about the things of which the Lord has done for me. I have said and done things that I regret, but the Lord has pulled me through the dark times. He has taken the negative and used it to forge a positive. This walk is all about Him, and His plan for this earth. He desires nothing more than to lavish us with His love. I boast in the fact that I was in chains, and have been set free, I boast that I am privileged to know this loving and awesome God. There are times of trouble but we can be assured that all is well.
